Up for sale is my RYOGA Hornet Std-RP90 in Open Pore Black.



Ry.. Ryo.. What? Don’t they make drills?

Close, but not quite. Ryoga is the exclusive in-house brand of Shimamura Music, the largest musical instrument retailer in Japan.



As such, Ryoga completely reinterprets classic shapes with modern specs. The best part: the high-quality “Made in Japan” models are produced as OEM orders directly by Fujigen (FGN) – the legendary workshop also responsible for Ibanez Prestige and many other iconic instruments.



Fender hates this trick.



This singlecut, christened with the handy name Hornet/Std-RP90, is one of these Made in Japan models: extremely well-balanced, ergonomic, and stage-ready.

And all that without the whole “I own three boutique compressors and an Old Fashioned” vibe that some custom shops charge a fortune for.



The specs read like a best-of:



Body: Gaboon Mahogany, open-pore finish, extremely resonant.



Neck & Fingerboard: Evenly roasted, silky-smooth maple neck with a beautifully grained rosewood board and 24 frets.



Nut & Electronics: 42mm cow bone nut and Switchcraft electronics.



Hardware: Gotoh locking tuners (Made in Japan).



Pickups: In-house pickups (P90 at the neck, split-capable humbucker at the bridge), giving the whole package maximum tonal versatility.



Plays great, is impeccably built, and perfectly set up. Plug in and go. Cosmetically and technically in very good condition (see pictures).



What’s the catch?

Well, anyone who defines themselves solely by the logo on their headstock or compensates for childhood trauma by insisting that “Play Authentic” is the only truth won’t be happy with the Hornet.



But if craftsmanship, specs, and tone are your focus, this offers an almost unbeatable price-performance ratio. And let’s be honest: those “Hey, what are you playing?” conversations backstage are always fun for us basement dwellers.
