Firstly to avoid any possible confusion, this is not an 'official' Klon Centaur and 'Lucid AudioFX' is not affiliated in any way with any other pedal manufacturers. With the exception of the optional true bypass setting the circuitry is the same as in the original, based on the latest verified version of the schematic.

The Lucid AudioFX faithful recreation of this legendary pedal offers the same transparent boutique overdrive tone as the original Centaur, but without the need to remortgage It's 18v internal switching from a regular 9v supply gives the pedal a huge amount of headroom, making this incredibly useful as a buffer/boost to liven up your clean tone. Then increase the gain for a rich and natural overdrive which cleans up nicely when rolling off your guitar's volume, and goes from extremely warm to extremely bright and everything in between at the touch of the treble knob.

We've also made a small enhancement to the circuitry to increase the overall available volume boost and also to allow the signal to be attenuated all the way to completely silent when the volume knob is at zero.

The buffer is one of the best around and makes a real difference to your guitar's signal as it snakes around your pedals. Even with 80ft of old cable your guitar tone and specifically your high end frequencies are retained with crystal clarity when the buffer is engaged. Removing these buffer components would allow us to use true bypass switching but at the cost of some of that sparkling Klon tone.

The solution is to provide switching of both setups via a small slide-switch mounted on the PCB. In the up position the buffer is engaged when effect is on and also when it is bypassed, in the down position the buffer is on when the effect is engaged and true bypass when it is bypassed. The IC, op-amps and clipping diodes are all socketed to allow easy switching for the experimenters out there. Chiron comes loaded with a pair of NOS Russian D9E diodes as in the original Centaur, but also included are two additional pairs of diodes, clipped and formed to make them super easy to switch out. Alternate germaniums for a smooth drive and silicons for a punchy and defined tone. You can even mix and match any two of the six diodes for some great asymmetric sounding tones.

Chiron's circuitry is built on a professionally made multilayer PCB with minimal wiring to keep any unwanted interference at bay. The shielded pots and footswitch are connected directly to the board for the most stable, reliable and elegant build possible. We only use high quality components and hardware in our products, selected for their reliability, long life and audio quality.

Each pedal is individually handpainted and serial numbered so each pedal is unique, this auction is for #CH019. It has a metallic black fade paint job with splodges, protected by several layers of high gloss 2-part epoxy to keep it looking fresh for years to come. Ultra cool UV status LED with chrome bezel, clearly visible but not too bright. Purple pointer knobs and a black DC jack socket. Includes 4 unattached rubber feet in case you want to use velcro instead.
